Gramicci started in California in the 1970s, from a new generation of rock-climbers called the Stonemasters who climbed at Yosemite National Park pioneering a new way of climbing that focuses on speed and style. The new style required new forms of clothing to provide the climber maximum movement without compromising on quality and functionality. Mike Graham had a keen eye for design and thus started developing new designs that would eventually be known as Gramicci.Â
In 1982, Gramicci and after he developed the shorts he developed trousers and word of these seemingly-indestructible pants called the G-Pant soon spread. Their popularity wasn’t limited to rock climbers either, and by the mid-80s a small contingent of surfers and skaters were seeking out these hard-wearing pants with the little hand-drawn ‘running man’ logo.
The loose silhouette is tailored to modern lifestyles while retaining the functionality derived from the brand’s roots in the climbing scene. With room around the hips and thighs, the shape gradually slims downward from the knees towards the cuffs. These pants feature large pockets on both sides and patch pockets on the back. They are made of organic cotton twill, which is durable, resilient, and able to withstand intense activity. A key design feature is the way the colored stitches contrast with the color of the fabric.
